Trade: Kaufland ends 2013 with 8 new hypermarkets and continues expansion in 2014
Kaufland Romania will continue its expansion rate in 2014 and will open new stores in Bucharest and in the country, after concluding 2013 with 8 new hypermarkets, according to retailer data.Kaufland investments ranked between 48 and 72 million euro, considering that the average investment in hypermarkets is 6 to 9 million euro, according to city, land value and store area.At present Kaufland network included 89 stores at national level.
The company has created 12,000 new jobs in Romania at headquarters in Bucharest , in opened stores and at logistic centers located in Ploiesti and Turda Industrial Parks.
Kaufland is the biggest retailer in Romania according to sales, exceeding Metro Cash & Carry and Carrefour. Last year, discount hypermarkets had a net business figure of 6.4 billion lei (1.4 billion euro), on the rise by 15% against 2011, and a 64% higher net profit of 274.5 million lei (61.6 million euro).
The retailer opened the first store in Romania in 2005. The company belongs to the German group Lidl & Schwartz which also operates the local discount network Lidl.
