Trade: Active persons with incomes over 3,000 lei most interested in buying a smartwatch in next 12 months

Four out of ten Romanians declared their intention to buy, in the next 12 months a smartwatch most of whom are professionally active men and young people aged between 25 and 34, with incomes over 3,000 lei/month, according to results of a study made on a sample of 1,070 persons. At present, only 2% of Internet users in Romania own a smartwatch, although 50% of them consider such a device is very useful.

The study made by iSense Solutions shows that over 80% of Romanians are familiar or at least have heard of the smartwatch concept. The interest in purchasing such an intelligent device in the next 12 months belongs of professionally active men and young people aged between 25 and 34.

In the top of best known smartwatch makers 60% of Romanian mentioned Apple, followed by Samsung. As for the intention to buy such a device, 47% would buy Samsung against 29% who would choose Apple. Sony and LG are also included in the top.

According to the source, the main characteristics which are at the base of the Romanians’ intention to buy a smartwatch are: many existing applications (42%), the possibility to communicate with someone else when it is hard to use a phone - while driving (38%) -, design (37%) and battery life (32%).

The most useful functions of a smartwatch possible buyers want are GPS - 76%, the possibility to make or receive a phone call (72%) or that to check the pulse of the physical activity of a person wearing the watch (72%).

On the other hand, the main reason invoked by those who do not want to buy a smartwatch is the high price (64%), while 27% say they are conservative and prefer to wear normal watches, while 22% consider these watches do not offer nothing more than a smartphone.

The study was made online by iSense Solutions on a sample to 1,070 respondents, members of the ResearchRomania.ro panel. Data are representative for people aged over 15, from the urban area in Romania and results have an error margin of +/-3%, at a confidence level of 95%.
