Tourism : Tourist accommodation, up by 5.5 pct during January 1 to August 31, 2014
The arrivals in tourist accommodation structures during January 1 to August 31, 2014 exceeded 5.743 million, up by 5.5 pct from the period January 1 to August 31, 2013, according to the data released by the National Statistics Institute (INS) on Wednesday.
Of the total arrivals, Romanian tourists' ones represented, in the first eight months of 2014, 77.9 pct, whilst foreign tourists' arrivals stood at 22.1 pct, shares close to those in the period January 1 to August 31, 2013.
As to foreign tourists' arrivals in the said structures, the largest share was represented by those from Europe (77.7 pct of total foreign tourists), and of these, 85.5% were from EU countries Arrivals in hotels hold, in period January 1 to August 31, 2014, a share of 74.5 pct of the total arrivals in tourist accommodation structures. Compared to the period January 1 to August 31, 2013, the arrivals in hotels in the first 8 months of 2014 are on the rise by 6 pct.
Overnight stays in the said structures from January 1 to August 31, 2014 stood at over 14.049 million, up by 5.7 pct from those in the period January 1 to August 31, 2013. Of the total number of overnight stays, 82.1 pct represent the overnight stays of Romanian tourists in the period January 1 to August 31, 2014, while the overnight stays of foreign tourists accounted for 17.9 pct. As to foreign tourists' overnight stays in the tourist accommodation structures, the largest share was held by those from Europe (76.1 pct of total foreign tourists), and of these, 84 pct were from EU countries.
The average duration of a stay in period January 1 to August 31, 2014 was 2.6 days in the case of Romanian tourists, and 2 days in the case of foreign tourists.
The index of net usage accommodation places in the period January 1 to August 31, 2014 was 26.6 pct per total tourist accommodation structures, up by 1.2 percentage points from the period January 1 to August 31, 2013. Higher usage indexes of accommodation places from January 1 to August 31, 2014 were recorded in hotels (33.4%) in tourist guesthouses (21.9 pct) and in tourist villas (21.5 pct).
