Tourism: Study: About two thirds of Romanians use mobile application to book flights or rooms

About two thirds (61%) of Romanians use a mobile application “almost  always”or “sometimes”to book flights or accommodation. The main reason for choosing a travel application are good ratings and recommendations of a friend or family member, according to a market study published by a technology company on Thursday.

The study made by Travelport shows that 77% of business travelers and 53% of leisure travelers used a mobile device to book a hotel room. More than half of tourists (57%) consider important that a cell phone application offers them the possibility to buy services related flight or accommodation activities.

According to the source, 66% of business travelers and 48% of tourists who travel for personal purpose consider it is important that a mobile application should have a live chat option.

At the same time, 56% of tourists expect to receive information about the possible difficulties which could appear during a trip, by means of “push” notifications before check-in, while 52% expect these notifications to appear on departure day.

In point of companies in the field, a similar study  made in 2018 revealed the fact that only 8% of them considered that a development strategy for mobile applications was important for their future success, while the present study shows that in 2019 such a strategy is considered the key of  business development.

At the same time, 38% of air companies and 72% of travel ones are aware they do not invest enough in services offered by means of mobile devices. In this context, 83% if air operators and 77% of the other travel companies expressed the intention to increase investments in mobile applications, in order to boost interest in their products, sales and attracting new clients.

Travelport Study was made at the end of 2018 on a sample of over 1,100 tourists and 100 specialists in tourism.
