Tourism: Romanians look for holidays in countries where tests and quarantine are not necessary

Restrictions do not discourage people to look for recreation services but the most popular travel destinations have changed and people are looking for offers in countries where tests and quarantine are not needed, according to an online travel agency.

Zanzibar is in the top of holiday destinations chosen by Romanians this year.

Despite restrictions, people have not given up traveling in 2021. They are looking for offers and choose countries where tests and quarantine are not necessary. Compared to January 2020, the number of searches for exotic destinations, including Tanzania, the United Arab Emirates, Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Canary Islands increased in services offered by eSky Group. Restrictions do not discourage people to look for recreation services. However, the most popular travel destinations have changed. Thailand, popular in past years was replaced by Zanzibar, which reached the top of holiday destinations in Romania this year,” shows an eSky  press release issued on Friday .

According to the source, the travel shortage in 2020 made Romanians look for winter travel offers in 2021. The number of searches for travel offers for Zanzibar grew by 280% against January 2020.Canary Islands, such as Tenerife are also very popular.

Looking for escaping from the bad weather in Romania and news about pandemic, travelers are looking for the Spanish islands, for sun and heat. Romanians prefer the islands for a longer period of time to work from the distance and at the same time they enjoy beautiful landscapes from the Canary Islands. Experts point out that the pandemic started a new travel tendency – workation. That tendency is based on the fact that Romanians travel not only for rest and recreation, but also to work in a nice environment. That type of traveling allows a change of landscape and a break from excessive stimuli accompanying us daily,” the press release points out.

According to the agency, Romanians start searches by checking restrictions in the country of destination and usually choose countries where tests or quarantine are not necessary upon arrival. The list of countries without restrictions for Romanians includes Tanzania, Mexico and the Dominican Republic.

On the other hand, a negative Covid 19 test is not an obstacle for Romanians and countries that require only a negative test include Kenya, United Arab Emirates (travels to Dubai or Abu Dhabi) and Canary Islands.

As a result of the rising interest in traveling to exotic parts of the world, many air companies saw that as an opportunity to rebuild sales affected by the pandemic. Flights to warm countries are now cheaper than last year. For instance, return flights Bucharest- Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic can be bought for 665 euros. On the other hand, holiday packages Flight+ Hotel accommodation (7 nights/person) to Abu Dhabi start from 194 euros, cheaper than in January 2020. Besides these flights, there are exceptional offers for Tanzania. Return flights  + 14 accommodation nights to Zanzibar from Bucharest  have prices starting from 806 euros”, the press release shows.

As for closer destinations, flight costs to Spain – Canary Islands and Balearic Islands have dropped significantly. Return flights to Tenerife are about 240 euros. On the other hand, return flights to Madrid start from 43 euros.
