Tourism : Romanian tourists prefer the Greek islands
Three in five Romanian tourists who spend their summer holidays abroad chose the Greek islands for their destination, with the assigned budget standing at 600 euros per person, shows a specialist survey.
"Crete and Zakynthos top the preferences of tourists who have booked foreign holidays this August, and the company's sales of packages available for these destinations are 25 percent higher than last year. 60 percent of the Romanian tourists who have booked summer vacations abroad have chosen packages for Crete and Zakynthos. Most trips to these islands, specifically 45 percent, were purchased under last minute deals in July," shows the survey by Paravion online travel agency.
According to this source, the average budget allocated by Romanian holidaymakers in the two islands amounts to 600 euros per person, including flight tickets, transportation from the airport to the hotel and back, and accommodation with breakfast.
Some of the major tourist attractions in Crete are the Minoan Palace of Knossos - the most important archaeological site on the island, the city of Rethymno, also dubbed the 'Venice of Greece', or Elafonissi, the most beautiful beach in the south-west of the island.
"Tourists who booked holidays in Zakynthos, the island dubbed the 'Venice of the South' or 'the Flower of the Levant', can visit the island's capital Zakynthos - the Navagio beach - preferred especially by those who seek isolation from civilization - and the Keri grottos and blue caves, which are highly sought after by snorkeling aficionados," mentions the source.
