Tourism : Romania's Jan-July tourist numbers rise 12.1% y/y

Compared to the corresponding month of the previous year, both the arrivals and the overnight stays in the establishments of tourists’ reception with functions of tourists’ accommodation increased by 10.7 % and by 6.7 %, respectively, in July 2017.

Compared to July 2016, in July 2017, customs registered an increase in both the arrivals of foreign visitors of 20.5 % and in the departures abroad of the Romanian visitors of 23.1 %.
In July 2017, the arrivals in the establishments of tourists’ reception amounted 1551.5 thousand, 10.7% more compared to July 2016. In July 2017, the arrivals of the Romanian tourists in the establishments of tourists’ reception with functions of tourists’ accommodation were 79.3% of the total arrivals, while the foreign tourists were 20.7%, weights similar to those of July 2016.
As to the arrivals of the foreign tourists in the establishments of tourists’ reception, the highest weight had those coming from Europe (73.5% of the total of foreign tourists) and 86.3% of them came from European Union Member States. In July 2017, the overnight stays in the establishments of tourists’ reception amounted 4138.2 thousand, 6.7 more compared to July 2016.
In July 2017, the Romanian tourists’ overnight stays in the establishments of tourists’ reception with functions of tourists’ accommodation were 84.8% of the total overnight stays, while the foreign tourists’ overnight stays were 15.2%. As to the overnight stays in the establishments of tourists’ reception, the highest weight had those coming from Europe (71.3% of the total of foreign tourists) and 84.8% of them came from European Union Member States. In July 2017, the average time of stay was 2.9 days for the Romanian tourists and 2.0 days for the foreign tourists.
In July 2017, the net use index of accommodation places was 43.6% on total tourists’ accommodation, 1.1 pp more compared to July 2016. In July 2017, hotels (54.0%), tourist villas (40.0%), pre?school and school camps and tourist halts (32.8%, each), hostels (30.3%) and bungalows (30.2%) registered higher indices of accommodation places. In July 2017, the departures of Romanian visitors abroad, according to customs, amounted 1542.0 thousand, 20.5% more compared to July 2016.
Most of the foreign visitors came from European countries (88.7%). 49.8% of the total arrivals of the foreign visitors to Romania were from European Union Member States, out of which the most arrivals were from Bulgaria (22.5%), Hungary (20.1%), Germany (9.6%), Italy (8.4%), Poland (7.3%) and France (5.4 %). In July 2017, the departures of Romanian visitors abroad, according to customs, amounted 2043.6 thousand, 23.1% more compared to July 2016. The Romanian visitors abroad mostly used the means of road transport, 71.6 % of the total departures.

In the period 1.01?31.07.2017, the arrivals in the establishments of tourists’ reception amounted 6607.9 thousand, 12.1% more compared to the period 1.01?31.07.2016.
In the period 1.01?31.07.2017, the arrivals of the Romanian tourists in the establishments of tourists’ reception with functions of tourists’ accommodation were 76.9% of the total arrivals, while the foreign tourists were 23.1%, weights similar to those of the period 1.01?31.07.2016.
As to the arrivals of the foreign tourists in the establishments of tourists’ reception, the highest weight had those coming from Europe (74.9% of the total of foreign tourists) and 85.4% of them came from European Union Member States.
In the period 1.01?31.07.2017, the overnight stays in the establishments of tourists’ reception amounted 14251.0 thousand, 7.2% more compared to the period 1.01?31.07.2016. In the period 1.01?31.07.2017, the Romanian tourists’ overnight stays in the establishments of tourists’ reception with functions of tourists’ accommodation were 79.6% of the total overnight stays, while the foreign tourists’ overnight stays were 20.4%.
As to the overnight stays in the establishments of tourists’ reception, the highest weight had those coming from Europe (73.9% of the total of foreign tourists) and 84.2% of them came from European Union Member States. In the period 1.01?31.07.2017, the average time of stay was 2.2 for Romanian tourists and 1.9 days for foreign tourists.

In the period 1.01?31.07.2017, the net use index of accommodation places was 28.8% on total tourists’ accommodation, 0.3 pp more compared to the period 1.01?31.07.2016.
In the period 1.01?30.06.2017, hotels (36.5%), tourist villas (23.4%), ship accommodation spaces (22.5%), tourist halts (21.3%) and hostels (20.9%) registered higher indices of accommodation places.
Most of the foreign visitors accommodated in the establishments of tourists’ reception came from Germany (176.7 thousand), Israel (152.8 thousand), Italy (132.5 thousand), France (93.5 thousand) and the United Kingdom (91.2 thousand).
In the period 1.01?31.07.2017, the arrivals of foreign visitors to Romania, according to customs, amounted 7094.7 thousand, 24.0% more compared to the period 1.01?31.07.2016. .
Most of the foreign visitors came from European countries (89.7%). 54.2% of the total arrivals of the foreign visitors to Romania were from European Union Member States, out of which the most arrivals were from Bulgaria (25.1%), Hungary (22.0%), Italy (9.8%), Germany (8.9%), France and Poland (5.1%, each) and the United Kingdom (5.0%) .
In the period 1.01?31.07.2017, the departures of Romanian visitors abroad, according to customs, amounted 11263.5 thousand, 24.1% more compared to the period 1.01?31.07.2016. The Romanian visitors abroad mostly used the means of road transport, 69.6% of the total departures.
