Tourism: Romania has taken over as vice president of WTO
Prime Minister Mihai Tudose announced on Wednesday, at the beginning of a government meeting, that Romania has taken over as vice president of the United States World Tourism Organization (WTO).
"The second good news is in real time. Starting today, Romania holds the position of vice president at the World Tourism Organization. Congratulations to Mr Minister Dobre who is there and made the achievement," said Tudose.
Romania has become a member of the Executive Council of the World Tourism Organization (WTO), alongside Lithuania, Greece, Russia and Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Tourism announced on Monday.
According to the ministry, there were several countries inside the UNWTO Regional Commission for competing for five positions on the Executive Council, with Romania having garnered 22 votes for, more than half of the votes cast. The other countries to have won a seat in the governing body of the WTO are: Lithuania (27 votes), Greece (25), Russia (22) and Azerbaijan (20).
Supporting Romania's candidacy was a delegation headed by Tourism Minister Mircea Dobre in Chengdu (China) during the 22nd meeting of the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization.
