Tourism: Over 2.5 million tourists participated in actions organized by travel agencies in 2019
The overall number of tourists participating in actions organized by travel agencies in 2019 was of 2,526,500 persons.
Of them, 86.1% represented tourists participating in travel actions organized by travel agencies with organization activity, according to data centralized by the National Statistics Institute.
In the domestic tourist activity, Romanian tourists who benefiteed from actions organized by travel agencies with organization activity represented 48.9% of the total number of tourists who traveled with this type of agencies. Romanian tourists who chose the outgoing activity represented 46.3% and foreign tourists who came to Romania 4.8%.
Tourist actions organized by travel agencies with intermediate activity had 66% of tourists who chose domestic tourism, 33.6% outgoing activities and 0.4% incoming activities.
Romanian tourists participating in domestic tourist actions organized by travek agencies with organization activities chose mainly the littoral area (60.5%), the resort area (14.4%) and the mountain area (8.7%). In the case of domestic agencies with intermediate activity, tourists chose mainly the littoral area (74.8%), the resort area (5.9%) and the mountain area (3.3%).
Accommodation services had the largest share in the structure of tourist packages of agencies with organization activity -54.2% for domestic tourism, 47.3% for outgoing tourism, 43.2% for incoming tourism, followed by transport services with 26.2% for outgoing tourism, 21.9% for incoming and 12.4% domestic tourism.
Catering services – restaurants, coffee shops, bars- had a share of 19.3% for domestic tourism, 18.9% for incoming activities and 12.6% for outgoing tourism.
The commission applied by travel agencies with organization activity in the structure of tourist packages was 8.5% on the average.
The structure is similar for agencies with intermediate activity, the highest share in the structure of tourist packages being accommodation services for domestic tourism -55.8%, for incoming activities – 44% and for outgoing 42.7%. Transport services had a share of 29.5% for outgoing tourism, 15.7% for incoming tourism and 8.9% for domestic tourism, while those for catering had a share of 24.3% for incoming tourism, 19.8% for domestic tourism and 13.5% for outgoing.
The commission applied by travel agencies with intermediate activity I the structure of tourist packages was 9.2% on the average.
87% of Romanian tourists who traveled abroad in trips organized by travel agencies with organization activities (903.2 thousand) went to Europe (of whom 61.1% in EU countries).
The most important tourist destinations chosen by Romanian tourists participating in outgoing travel actions organized by travel agencies with organization activities in 2019 were: Turkey (33.1%), Bulgaria (22.4%), Greece (13.5%), Egypt (4.3%) and Italy (3.9%).
78 thousand Romanian tourists who traveled by means of travel agencies with intermediate activities went to Europe (87.1%) of whom 75.3% to EU countries.
The most important destinations chosen by Romanian tourists participating in outgoing tourist actions organized by travel agencies with intermediate activities in 2019 were: Turkey (21.3% ), France (15.5%), Greece (11%), Italy (10.4%), Bulgaria (7.9%) and Spain (7.8%).
Foreign tourists who came to Romania on trips organized by travel agencies with organization activities (102.1 thousand tourists) were 74.6% from Europe (94.1% of them came from EU countries). They were from Spain (17.3%), Germany (10%), UK (8.4%), Israel (8.3%), USA (7.5%) and Italy (7.5%).
On the other hand, foreign tourists who came to Romania on trips organized by agencies with intermediate activity (1,100 tourists) were 54% from Europe (86.7% from EU countries) and came mainly from Israel (27.5%), UK (21.8%), China (13.2%), Italy (6.7%), Spain (6.6%) and Turkey (6%).
The business figure of travel agencies with organization activities was 2.172 billion lei and of 162.85 million lei for those with intermediate activities.
