Tourism: Nine areas in Romania supported to improve ecological tourism performances with a project of 154,741 euro

Nine areas in Romania will be supported to improve their ecological tourism performances as part of a project of 154,741 euro launched by the Ecotourism Association of Romania (AER) and the National Authority for Tourism (ANT).These areas will increase performances of tourist management, responsibility towards the natural environment in promotion activities. The value of the grant is 139,015 and the total value of the project is 154,741 euro.

The project offers technical support to those areas that obtained or wish to obtain the status of ecotourist destination.“I am sure that by means of ecotourism the chances of attracting tourists to this kind of destinations in Romania grow. A first result of the partnership between ANT, non-governmental and private organizations is to nominate the first two ecotourism destinations in Romania - the area Mara-Cosau-Creasta Cocosului and Zarnesti. The areas which obtain the status of Ecotourism Destination benefit from an efficient promotion at national and international levels of cultural assets and natural attractions, and make an important step in applying the concept of responsible tourism,” said Razvan Filipescu, the president of ANT.

The nine areas benefiting from actions included in the project will be selected based on an application sent prior to August 30, 2014.

AER has the mission to promote and develop ecotourism in order to contribute to the preservation of nature and support local communities in areas with natural value.
