The number of cruising tourists in Romania will increase by approximately 20% in 2014
The number of cruising tourists coming to Romania will record an increase of approximately 20% in 2014 and one of the factors contributing to this evolution is the unfavourable political context in Ukraine, according to a press release of the Association for the Promotion and Development of tourism Sea Side – Danube Delta.
If in 2013 a number of approximately 54,000 passengers visited the harbour of Constanta, in 2014 up to this date, there have been almost 64,500 passengers. The increase is due to the efforts of CN Administratia Porturilor Maritime Constanta, Asociatia Litora – Delta Dunarii and the local authorities, but as well as in the unfavourable political context in Ukraine which determined that all cruise lines replace the Odessa harbour with Constanta harbour, the quoted press release says.
According to the quoted source, the 64,500 tourists coming on the territory of Romania spend over 6 million euro during the days when the ships come to the Constanta harbour. Moreover, many of the ships in the cruises which opt for Constanta spend one night more on the Romanian territory by approximately one night, some of them doubling their stay against the previous year
In the top of passengers who arrive aboard the cruising ships are American citizens, followed by French, Italian and German citizens.
During the day when the ships stop in Constanta, the tourists can opt to go on trips such as seaside tours, wine tasting in Murfatlar, one day cruises in the Danube Delta, archaeological tours and monasteries tours. At the same time, there is the possibility of Bucharest tour or the tourists can take part in programmes with folk shows and Romanian traditional lunch.
‘Cruising tourism with passenger ships in Constanta harbour represents a niche with a real potential towards which we concentrate our attention. The Constanta harbour, the Constanta city, as well as Romania have to gain as many cruising ships will not go to Odessa anymore. In this context, I consider that Romania should consolidate its promotion strategy of Romanian destinations taking into consideration the present political situation’ Corina Martin, chairman of the Asociatia Litoral –Delta Dunarii said.
