Telecom. IT: Average national download speed for fix Internet grew by 10% in 2019
The average data transfer speed through fix and mobile Internet is rising at national level, according to the National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications of Romania (ANCOM). The Authority points out that the national average download speed for fix Internet grew by 10%, to 148.95 Mbps in 2019 compared to 2018.
“Official statistics on the quality of fix and mobile Internet in Romania elaborated by ANCOM based on tests from the application Netograf.ro show that in 2019 Romanians experimented average download speeds of 148.95 Mbps for fix Internet and 24.79 Mbps for mobile Internet, on the rise compared to previous years. Tests made by users on Netograf.ro website and the application Netograf for fix terminals show that in 2019 the average national download speed for fix Internet grew by 10% against 2018, while the average upload speed reached 110.73 Mbps, on the rise by 8%, against the previous year,” ANCOM shows.
Average download speeds for fix Internet connections recorded at county level in 2019 are rising compared to 2018 and 2017, with variations between 106.38 Mbps (Covasna) and 150.15 Mbps
(Bucharest). The same rising tendency can be also seen in the case of data transfer speeds made by mobile Internet connections, where the average download varied between 11.74 Mbps (Gorj) and 36.2 Mbps (Suceava) in 2019.
Results of tests made by users on Netograf.ro and Netograf application for mobile terminals show an average download speed of 24.79 Mbps, and an average upload speed of 12.63 Mbps for mobile Internet at national level in 2019, both on the rise by 8% against 2018.
Statistics included in ANCOM report on the quality of Internet access service in 2019 were made based on 275,969 valid tests ,made by means of the three types of Netograf applications: web, applications for fix terminals and applications for mobile terminals (Android and IOS).
Netograf is an electronic platform conceived by ANCOM to offer Internet users in Romania an independent, objective and free instrument to permanently check the quality of Internet services they pay. Users can thus check whether the Internet service used is up to the quality provided in the contract they concluded. At the same time, they have access to statistics of values of quality parameters obtained based on tests made by other Netograf users.
