Telecom. IT: 142 towns in Romania get vouchers for free Wi-Fi Internet access
1,780 towns in EU (142 of which in Romania) will receive vouchers of 15,000 euros for the program WiFi4EU, to help install Wi-Fi hotspots for free access to Internet, an EU press release informs.
The European Commission informs that 11,000 applications for financing were sent by local administrations over September 19-20, 2019. 26.7 million euros were offered during the third call for Internet access in public areas (parks, public areas, libraries, public buildings). 142 vouchers, 8% of the total budget were laid at the disposal of each participating country.
EC points out that seven states (Spain, Italy, Germany, France, Romania, Austria and Hungary) received the highest number of vouchers per member country. In the first two seconds after the launch of the call recorded 2,000 participation applications.
120 million euros from EU budget will be offered until 2020, to finance the equipment needed for the supply of free public Wi-Fi in 8,000 localities of all member states as well as in Norway and Iceland.
