Romanian-Bulgarian cooperation could bring more Asian tourists

Bulgarian Tourism Minister Nikolina Angelkova estimates that a memorandum initialled with the Romanian Government might increase the number of Asian tourists, especially Chinese, to this part of the world.

"We shall collaborate with the Romanian government on programmes on cultural, balneal, gastronomic and religious tourism. We intend to create joint programmes in accordance with the Danube Strategy. One of the points of this collaboration is about the creation of a joint tourist information centre in China," she declared on Thursday at the 11th regional fair Weekend Tourism Rousse 2015 (WTR).

Several Bulgarian museums attended the event; many of them count on the collaboration with Romanian tour operators. Among them, the Open Air Museum of Gabrovo is going to invite Romanian traditional craftsmen to an international fair this year.

Svetla Dimitrova, manager of the Gabrovo museum, wants Romania to become a permanent participant the International Fair of Balkan Wedding Traditions from 2016 on.

Angelkova and her Romanian counterpart Mihai Tudose recently discussed collaboration for launching joint tourist packages on distant markets, especially in China.

According to the Bulgarian Tourism Ministry, one million Romanian tourists visit Bulgaria each year, and 300,000 Bulgarians visit Romania. Romania's National Institute of Statistics placed Bulgarians second among foreign tourists in March, with 26.8 percent of the overall number.
