Romania's trade deficit in agriproducts surges almost 11 pct in H1
Romania's trade deficit in agricultural products increased by almost 11 percent in the first half of 2013, up to 450.5 million euros, compared with the 406.67 million recorded in the same period last year, according to data provided to Agerpres by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR).
The total value of agricultural products exports to countries inside and outside the European Union exceeded 1.84 billion euros in end-June 2013, involving 3.167 million tonnes of products, the wheat dominating the ranking in terms of quantity exported, followed by the corn, the cigarettes and the sunflower seeds.
Last year, there were exported 3.478 million tonnes of agricultural products January through June, worth 1.74 billion euros. Romania's exports dropped 8.9 percent in the first half of the year, in terms of quantity, and soared 5.7 percent in terms of value.
On the other hand, imports grew by 6.77 percent, up to 2.3 billion euros, January through June this year, over the same interval last year.
The quantity of agricultural products imported in the first half of the year exceeded 2.604 million tonnes, down 7.46 compared with the first half of 2012 (2.813 million tonnes).
