Romania has 37.4 percent of electrified railway network in operation, end of 2017
The railway lines of public use in operation at the end of 2017 amounted to 10,774 kilometers, and the simple length of the electrified railway tracks in operation was 4,030 km, roughly 37.4 percent of the network in operation, according to data centralised by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
Out of the total lines, 10,635 km (98.7 percent) were normal track gauge, 5 km with narrow gauges and 134 km (1.3%) with large gauge lines, according to the INS data.
The density of the lines per 1000 sqkm territory was of 45.2 to 1,000. The highest densities were recorded, respectively, in the Bucharest - Ilfov region (154.7 to a 1,000), Western region (58.9 to 1,000), South-East area (48.9 to 1,000) and the North-West region (48,8 to a thousand).
At the end of last year, the electrified railway lines in operation accounted for roughly 5,990 km main railway lines (55.6 percent), out of which 5,596 km (99,4 percent) were normal track gauge.
