Port of Rotterdam International seeks involvement in development of Constanta Port
The Port of Rotterdam does not plan to pose competition to the companies in the Black Sea Port of Constanta, but seeks the development of trade to the benefit of all parties involved, Director of Port of Rotterdam International Roger Clasquin said on Wednesday in an exclusive statement for Agerpres, adding that river traffic on the Danube will never be able to cope with the large freight flows.
I know that our initiative in Constanta was not favorably received by the media, but we want you to know that we have no plans whatsoever to hurt the business and commercial interests of investors here and of the port operators with a long tradition here. I explained this to the representatives of companies Minmetal and Comvex and I hope I got my message through. We did not come to pose a competition to the companies here, it's just that we can develop trade in the Port of Constanta to the benefit of all. We are not competitors, there are more than 4,000 kilometers separating us on mainland and water. The idea that the shipments arriving in Constanta will no longer leave further for Rotterdam because of stealth competition is utopian. Large flows of goods from the East to the West will never make their way to the Netherlands or Germany along the Danube, because the river does not have this capacity. The Danube is fit for water tourism, and for the transport of small shipments, when nature allows, but that's all. The port of Constanta can be our equal partner, actively involved in the works of global commerce and freight shipments, said the Director of Port of Rotterdam International.
'I see the meeting with representatives of the Port of Rotterdam International as a continuation of the visit of the delegation headed by Rotterdam mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb, as a first step in the cooperation we both want to be as strong as possible,' said the General Director of the Constanta National Maritime Ports Administration Company (CNAPM) Lucian Balut. In turn, Director of the Port of Rotterdam International, Roger Clasquin, said that the organization he represents has been cooperating with the Constanta Port for more than three year now.
