New car registrations 35 pct up in July
The number of new car registrations was nearly 35 percent up year-on-year in July, to 10,681; in the personal car segment, the advance was 56 percent, while Dacia was still the Romanians' preferred brand, according to data published on the website of the Driving Licence and Vehicle Registration Directorate (DRPCIV) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI).
Out of a total of newly registered vehicles in July, personal cars were 8,368 (+46.45 percent); semi-trailer registrations also advanced ( (+63.69 percent, or 275 units), as did the special destination vehicles (+40.74 percent, 38 units), light buses and passenger vans (+25.35 percent, 89 units), heavy buses and coaches above 3.5 tons (+22.54 percent, 87 units) and trailers (+22.89 percent, 689 units).
By brands, Dacia maintained its leading position with 2,864 new registrations (+75.38 percent year-on-year in July), followed by Volkswagen (766 units, +13.31 percent), Ford (754, +94.83 percent) and Skoda (751, +54.53 percent).
DRPCIV official data show a national fleet of 5.98 million cars at the end of 2013, up 4.73 percent from the previous year; nearly 4.7 million of them were personal cars, and more than 3.3 million were gasoline models.
