Healthcare: Value of medicines sold to Romanians, 3.01 billion lei in Q2 of 2014 (survey)
The value of medicines sold to patients in Romania reached 3.01 billion lei in the second quarter of 2014 at a distribution price increasing 5.7 per cent compared with the second quarter of 2013, according to the results of the survey carried out by Pharma&Hospital Report on Friday.
'The evolution in the second quarter of the year was over the one in the first quarter, which confirms the resilience of the pharmaceutical market: the quarterly increase of 5.7 per cent led to the 2 per cent half-yearly advance and the year-on-year evolution records a 0.4 per cent decline. In the context in which most probably the list of compensated medicines will be updated towards the end of the year, its impact will be marginal on 2014 and we maintain the current forecast of 0.3 per cent decline in lei. For 2015, we estimate a modest growth of the market, accounting for 1.8 per cent in lei,' Cegedim Romania CEO Petru Craciun said.
In the second quarter of 2014, the value of the prescription-based medicines in pharmacies amounted to 2.15 billion lei, increasing 4.5 per cent. The medicines without prescription totalled 0.46 billion lei, advancing 12.8 per cent, and those on the hospital segment reached 0.40 billion lei, up by 4.6 per cent compared with the second quarter of 2013.
