Infrastructure: Sibiu-Pitesti highway could be ready in 2023 for a total of 1.67 billion euros
Sibiu-Pitesti highway could be ready at the end of 2023 and the total value of the investment will exceed 1.67 billion euros, according to a document of the Ministry of European Funds (MFE). The investment will be financed from the Large Infrastructure Operational Program (LIOP), the financing contract being probably signed in quarter 3, 2017. The investment will be implemented as of quarter 4, 2017 and the first work contracts will be signed in early 2018.
On December 9, 2015, transport minister Dan Costescu said, at the public debate on the budget bill, that works for Pitesti-Sibiu highway may start on January 1, 2017 in case tenders begin in the summer of 2016.
“Unfortunately, it did not start in time to begin execution of works. We began procedures for the feasibility study and we try to accelerate the program we received. Feasibility studies should have been concluded on December 15. The foreign consultant recommended to extend this period until June 15 and not to hurry things, especially geological drills. Tenders for design and works might begin in summer, after the feasibility study. That means we could start works as of January 1, 2017,” Costescu said.
