Infrastructure: Romania to allocate a billion lei for road maintenance by 2014
The Ministry of Transports will allocate a billion lei at the most for the maintenance of the national roads and motorways between 2012 and 2014, Minister of Transports and Infrastructure Alexandru Nazare told Agerpres in an interview taken on Sunday.
The National Company of Motorways and National Roads in Romania holds tenders at the moment for the services of permanent maintenance of the national roads for 2012 to 2014 for the area of Bucharest and for other three road directions, Cluj, Craiova and Brasov. The total value of contracts is 205 million euros, without the VA, with 8.700 km of national roads to be put up on tender for their maintenance in the first half of the year, according to the company's announcement.
The new contracts include stricter clauses to make sure they observe the quality parameters. In this respect, the services provider will pay compensations in amount of 20 percent of the entire order value, in case they do not fulfil an order, and if they fail to complete an order, they are going to pay 10 percent.
The services provider will also pay 100,000 euros compensation if they fail to execute the works and in case of a broken machinery the provider will replace it in maximum two days since they discovered the issue. The value of the multiannual contracts of maintenance for national roads and motorways in Romania between 2008 and March 2012 exceeded a billion euros, 235 million of which were paid by the end of 2010.
