Contract for building Bucharest-Otopeni metro sector, to be signed in February 2013
The contract for building the metro sector connecting Bucharest to the Otopeni Henri Coanda International Airport could be signed in February 2013, Transports Minister Alexandru Nazare told Agerpres on Sunday.
'Until November the preliminary technical report and the specifications will be completed. The tender will be launched in November. This means we shall have a contract signed sometime in February next year,' the Transports Minister said.
Therefore, the works will begin in the first half of 2013 and will be finalized in 2017 or 2018.
The Japanese consortium Padeco - Oriental Consultants and Metroul SA of Romania will prepare, design and supervise the works on this project. The contract, worth 66.6 million euros, is funded through a loan from the International Cooperation Bank of Japan (JICA) and through contributions from the state budget.
The total value of the investment will stand at about 800 million euros and the sector will measure 14 km, the possible stations being Pajura, Expozitiei, Herastrau Park (tram 41 Terminal), Baneasa Station, Baneasa Airport, Baneasa North, Privighetorilor, Otopeni South, Otopeni Centre and Henri Coanda Airport.
The Metrorex representatives pointed out that the sector would have a direct connection with the North Station - Bazilescu Park sector through Pajura station, and the works would be carried out completely in the underground.
President Traian Basescu, in Tokyo, signed the funding memorandum with JICA in 2010, the idea of the project dating back to the ‘90s, when the first measures for its completion began. A first feasibility study was carried out in the beginning of 2008, which will be revised by the Padeco - Oriental Consultants consortium and Metroul SA.
