Infrastructure: Romania elected to the position of Secretary General of the Permanent Secretariat of the TRACECA
Romania's Foreign Affairs Ministry hailed on Friday the election of Romanian Mircea Ciopraga to the position of Secretary General of the Permanent Secretariat of the TRACECA Intergovernmental Conference / Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia (IGC TRACECA), informs a Friday release.
According to the cited source, the election took place at the IGC TRACECA 11th annual meeting held on Jan. 29 in Istanbul, where the host country took over from the Republic of Tajikistan the chairmanship in office of the Intergovernmental Conference.
"The election of Romania's candidate was the result of joint diplomatic efforts by the Ministry of Transport, the TRACECA National Secretariat and by Romania's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and reaffirms Romania's commitment to promoting its interests within the regional cooperation formats," the Foreign Ministry said.
The institution also expresses confidence that the election of a Romanian to this position will help increase the efficiency of TRACECA activities "by promoting projects of common interest and alternative routes for the participating countries, as well as modern rules and procedures that are likely to contribute to the promotion and streamlining of the flow of goods and people in the region."
TRACECA is transport-dedicated EU technical assistance program created in 1993 and designed for the financing of projects along the the Europe-Caucasus-Asia transport corridor.
The Permanent Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Commission ensures the latter's current activity / secretariat operations, holds a legal personality and is based in Baku, Azerbaijan. The Secretary General, the highest ranking official in the TRACECA Commission, fills a 2-year term that may be extended by 2 or 3 years.
