Healthcare:Network of companies prejudiced state with 3 million euros by trading medicines

A network of firms coordinated by Romanian citizens which sold pharmaceutical products, prejudiced the state with over 13 million lei (3 million euros) by not paying VAT and taxes on profit, ANAF [National Tax Administration Agency] informs.

“Following fiscal risk analyses and controls made, the inspectors of the General Department for Fiscal Anti-fraud have identified a prejudice of over 13 million lei (about 3 million euros) to the state budget when a network of companies coordinated by Romanian citizens did not pay VAT and tax on profit. Prosecutors from the High court of Cassation and Justice made searches at 64 addresses in January 2015,”the press release informs.

According to it in 2013-2014 five circuits of companies in Bucharest and Ilfov, Ialomita, Buzau, Iasi, Arges and Olt counties acted as ghost companies creating the appearance of legality for medicines coming from illegal sources. Invoices were issued for fictitious purchases of very expensive medicines for HIV, oncological affections, multiple sclerosis, lung affections at prices ten times lower than the market value.

Para-pharmaceutical products and various services were also fictitiously bought to artificially increase expenses and reduce the taxable base and avoid paying tax on profit to the state budget, as well as the artificial increase of deductible VAT.

Most of the money obtained from this criminal activity (about 5 million euros) were transferred from companies to people playing an important role in organizing commercial circuits by concluding loan contracts and other money laundering operations.
