Infrastructure: Minister Fenechiu: Degree of concentration of EU funds surges from 60 up to more than 80 pct in two months
The Minister of Transportation has achieved an increase in the degree of concentration of EU funds up to more than 80 percent from below 60 percent in two months's time, while aiming at close to 100 percent degree of concentration in the end of 2015.
'I took over the ministry with the lowest EU funds absorption rate in Romania. Our country has managed to absorb as little as 450 million euros out of the 4.5 billion euros available, that would be a 10 percent absorption rate. My objective is to succeed that, by the end of 2015, to reach an absorption rate close to 100 percent. I have already managed in no more than two months to score a degree of concentration of 80 percent, from below 60 percent, which allows me to believe that it can be done. This year, my main objective is to absorb more than 1.1 billion euros, so that to avoid an interruption in the sectorial operational programme,' the Minister stated on Tuesday, on the occasion of a conference on logistics.
Fenechiu also added he planned to outsource expertise for EU funds absorption and also in the case of other major actions the institution he leads will have to get involved in, namely the identification of solutions to streamline business operations of multiple companies on loss the MT is responsible for.
