Infrastructure: Fincantieri will participate in building the longest suspended bridge in Romania

The Italian group Fincantieri, through its subsidiary Fincantieri Infrastructure, announced it would participate in the building of a suspended bridge in Romania which, when completed, would be the longest in the country and the third in Europe for the length of the central segment.

When works start in June 2019, it will be the longest suspended bridge in construction in the world, according to the company.

“With a total length of 1,975 meters and main opening of 1,120 meters, the bridge represents a construction of strategic importance for the country, co-financed by the European Union. The value of the contract for Fincantieri will be about 70 million euro and might go up in case the Group receives other works, now under negotiation,”a press release shows.

According to the order, Fincantieri Infrastructure will supply the steel bridge to the association made of Astaldi and IHI Infrastructure Systems, to which the National Company for Road Infrastructure Administration (CNAIR) granted the contract. This joint venture will handle the design and the construction ensemble and works will last about 24 months, according to the company.

“The bridge will be build over the Danube, 8 km far from Braila, where Vard building site, owed by Fincantieri Group is. The company will employ about 200 people for the construction and assembly of the 79 blocks of the steel bridge weighing 20,000 tons,” the press release states.

Engineer works and activities will be carried out in Valeggio sul Mincio (Verona), in the former headquarters of Cordioli &C, recently purchased by Fincantieri Infrastructure.
