Romania will be given a grant worth over EUR 34 million from the European Commission representing 75pct of the costs for the measures to combat the African swine fever (ASF), Prime Mminister Viorica Dancila announced on Friday at the beginning of the gov't sitting.

"Another piece of good news that arrived just this morning from the European Commission is related to the aid for combating the African swine fever. Romania is given a grant worth EUR 34,278,750, representing 75pct of the eligible costs our country has committed to for the emergency measures to combat the African swine fever," Dancila said.

The premier added that the Executive will adopt measures to support the agricultural sector, too.

"On the one hand, we increase by 67 million lei the sum allocated to the Diesel subsidy used in agriculture, so that the total amount reach 487 million lei this year. On the other hand, we approve the sums dedicated to backing the zootechnical sector. The total amount for 2018 nears almost 486 million lei, namely over EUR 104 million," Dancila added.
