Infrastructure: Constanta: Record traffic on shipping canals
The traffic of goods and ships on the Danube-Black Sea Canal and the variant Poarta Alba-Midia Navodari register the highest operation values since its inauguration.
According to Anastasie Severin, the exploitation manager of the National Company for the Administration of Shipping Canals Constanta, the daily traffic of goods varies between 110,000 and 170,000 tons at present.
“In the last 7 months of the year, the two shipping canals we exploit were transited by 13,931 ships (5,357 under foreign pavilion) and a record traffic of 19.6 million tons was registered, the best operation level since the opening of the canals,” Severin said.
Since the beginning of the year, the shipping canals in Constanta county were transited by 6.9 million tons of goods. As structure, 60% of goods is represented by cereals, followed by ores and coal, which leave Constanta port for Hungary.
On the Danube, navigation is difficult in certain sectors for commercial ships, while passenger ships navigate without problems in the context of the extensive drought, the Romanian Shipping Authority informs.
