Infrastructure : CFR initiates tender for rehabilitation of Brasov-Sighisoara railway, estimated at 3.1 billion lei
The National Railway Company CFR SA initiated an open tender for the rehabilitation of Brasov-Sighisoara railway section, the estimated value of the contract being 3.1 billion lei (without VAT), the company announced in a press release.
According to the source, financing is ensured by the European Commission through the European Interconnection Mechanism (85%) with co-financing of 15% from the state budget.
“The rehabilitation of the two sections Brasov- Apata and Cata- Sighisoara, 86 km long, will contribute to reaching the main target of promoting sustainable mobility on the section Hungarian border- Curtici- Arad- Simeria- Sighisoara- Brasov by: increasing traffic speed to 160km/h, reducing transport duration, increasing railway safety, facilities for the access of persons with reduced mobility, introducing modern signalling and traffic management systems, the improvement of comfort offered to passengers in railway stations”, the CFR press release mentions.
The company also points out that the tender for the middle section Apata-Cata will be soon launched. For that CFR SA signed a financing contract with the European Commission in November 2016.
On that section there are 11 sectioning points, all centralized electrodynamically, as well as four railway stations, 15 stops, two main railway knots and a double tunnel 660 m long.

The deadline for sending offers is February 1, 2017, 4.00 p.m and the opening of offers will be on February 27, 2017, 6.00 p.m.
