Healthcare: Specialists: 3% of Romania’s population suffers from inflammatory rheumatic diseases

Rheumatic affections are present even among the active population, young people and children. 3% of people in Romania suffer from inflammatory rheumatic diseases, according to a press release issued by several organization on the World Day of Fight against Arthritis.

According to the source, there are about 2,000 children with juvenile arthritis.

“Although rheumatic affections are considered old people’s affections, rheumatic diseases also affect the active population, young people and even children. The rheumatic disease category includes over 200 forms, and there are over 600,000 persons in  Romania (3% of population) with one of the forms of the disease, the most frequent being rheumatoid poly-arthritis, spondiloarthritis and psoriatic arthropathy. At the same time, their frequency among young people and the active population represent an extremely important impact at socio-economic level, musculoscheletal diseases affecting the people’s work capacity. These diseases are responsible for work absences and an unemployment rate three times higher than among the general population.”
