Cars: APIA: Over 1,500 ecological cars sold in Romania in the first 8 months of year
The number of new, ecological cars (hybrid and electric) sold in Romania in the first eight months of the year reached 1,518 units, on the rise by 161% compared to the same period of 2016, according to APIA statistics (Association of Automobile Producers and Importers).
There were 184 electric cars (100%), more than double the number than in the first 8 months of 2016, when 67 units were sold.
According to statistics, the share of ecological cars in overall national sales was 1.9%, while the sale of hybrid cars grew by 160% over January-August 2017.
235 electric and hybrid cars were sold in August, dropping by 19.24% against the previous month when 291 cars were sold.
The top of best sold electric cars in the first 8 months of the year includes BMW with 55 units (1st place), followed by Mercedes Benz (45 cars), Renault (20), Mitsubishi and Volkswagen (16 units each), Audi (11), Porsche and Volvo (6 units each).
At the same time, most hybrid cars were sold in Romania from January to August 2017 by Toyota (1,019 units), followed by Lexus (88 units), Kia (9), Hyundai (3) and Mercedes Benz (2).
Official statistics show that in 2016, 1,195 electric and hybrid cars were sold in Romania, on the rise by 205%.
