Healthcare: Health Minister wants a high-capacity vaccine production line to open at the Cantacuzino Institute of Bucharest
Health Minister Florian Bodog said Wednesday evening that he wants a high-capacity vaccine production line to open at the Cantacuzino Institute of Bucharest.
"I have in mind, and I have discussed the matter with the prime minister, the possibility of building a vaccine production line, but not a small one as the existing one at the Cantacuzino Institute is, but one that will turn out vaccines for the neighbouring countries as well, because there is a problem. There are currently two or three world vaccine makers that can deliver to Europe. I believe that if the Cantacuzino Institute were to start off making vaccines, immunisation would also increase, given the confidence of Romanians in the Cantacuzino Institute products," Bodog told Realitatea TV private broadcaster on Wednesday.
He added that the laboratories of the Cantacuzino Institute could become reference labs for the entire Eastern Europe.
"I am on the lookout for a manager that is also a researcher because there is a legal provision in force compelling me to do so. I would like a manager from outside the institute who wants to restart the institute. There are currently reference labs operating at the Cantacuzino Institute that conduct various tests for the Romanian healthcare system. We could become a reference laboratory for the entire Eastern Europe. None of the countries neighbouring Romania have the possibility of a reference lab," said Bodog.
