Ford Romania: Demand for EcoBoost engines up three times in Europe
The demand for EcoBoost engines in Europe has increased three times in the latest years, the Ford company estimating a demand up to 450,000 units in 2015, Ian Pearson, the head of the engine production department at the plant in Craiova (southern Romania) announced on Monday.
The production of Ford EcoBoost engines in Craiova amounts at present to 1,000 units per day, with production volumes for the following years to depend on demand, according to representatives of Ford Romania, who chose not to came with any forecasts in terms of the volume of production.
The Craiova-based Ford car plant on Monday began the series production of the new 1.5 litre and 180 hp EcoBoost engine, while also continuing to produce the 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine, in the case of which production started more than a year ago.
The Craiova plant has a production capacity of 350,000 engines per year, company officials estimating that the two types of engines will have almost equal share in production in 2013.
The company's 1.0 litre engine equips the Ford B-Max model and is exported also to other plants of the producer in Europe, while the 1.5 litre engine will be exported mainly to China and North America.
