Eurostat: Housing prices, up more in Romania than in EU, in Q4 of 2017

 House prices in the Euro area increased 0.9 percent and in the European Union 0.7 percent in the 4th quarter of last year, compared with the the third quarter, a higher advance being recorded in Romania where the prices of dwellings went up 1.2 percent from one quarter to the other, according to data published by the European Statistical Office on Wednesday (Eurostat).

As compared to the previous quarter, October through December 2017, the highest increases in house prices in the European Union were recorded in Slovenia (3.7 percent), Croatia (3.2 percent) and Cyprus (2.7 percent).

House prices rose by 4.2 percent in the Euro area and by 4.5 percent in the EU in the forth quarter of 2017 compared with the same quarter of the previous year. Among the member states for which data are available, the highest annual increases in house prices were recorded in Ireland (+11.8 percent), Portugal (10.5 percent), and Slovenia (10 percent). In Romania, house prices recorded a 5.6 increase in the 4th quarter of 2017 as compared to the similar period of 2016. 

According to data with the National Institute of Statistics (INS), the number of finalised dwellings in Romania in 2017 increased by 1,095 as compared to the previous year, reaching 53,301 units. On the other hand, at the level of the fourth quarter of 2017, as many as 13,929 dwellings were given into use, down 1,320, compared to the same period of the previous year.
