Cars: The new registrations* of cars increased by 66.0% in Q II 2017, compared to Q II 2016

The new registrations of road vehicles for passenger transport increased by 64.1 % in Quarter II 2017, compared to Quarter II 2016.

In Quarter II 2017, the new registrations of vehicles for goods transport increased by 8.7% compared to Q II of the previous year.
The number of new car registrations grew by 66 per cent in Q2 2017 compared with the same period last year, according to data the National Institute of Statistics (INS) made public on Monday.
Moreover, in the same interval, the number of new passenger car registrations surged 64.1 per cent, while registrations of new freight vehicles went up 8.7 per cent.
According to the INS data, in Q2 2017, compared with the same quarter last year, the number of new passenger car registrations increased in the passenger car, mopeds and motorcycles categories, by 66 and 17.4 per cent respectively, up to 147,907 units and 2,969 units respectively.
In what the buses and microbuses category is concerned, the growth stood at 10.2 per cent, up to 601 units, for the same interval.
Compared with Q1, registrations of new passenger cars dropped 0.5 per cent in Q2 2017, while registrations of freight vehicles increased by 7.1 per cent.
As regards registrations of new freight vehicles, they recorded a 25.1 per cent growth in the trucks category in Q2 2017 compared with the same interval last year, up to 17,837 units and decreases in the tractors and trailers and semi-trailers categories, by 20.6 per cent (up to 3,338 units) and by 5.4 per cent (up to 7,546 units).
* New registrations of road vehicles refer to road vehicles registered for the first time in Romania. These comprise new vehicles, including those purchased under leasing conditions, as well as imported second hand cars. Re?registrations due to change of owners as consequence of cars sale, trams and trolleybuses, military vehicles, agricultural trailers and housing vehicles are not included.
