Cars:  Sales of new eco-friendly cars in the first 11 months of the year stood at 1,044 units

 Sales of new eco-friendly cars (electric and hybrid vehicles) in the first 11 months of the year stood at 1,044 units, up by 125 percent from the 464 units registered in the same period of the year before, shows statistical data of Romania's Association of Automotive Manufacturers and Importers (APIA).

Green cars accounted for 1 percent of total sales of new automobiles between January - November 2016. 

In November 2016, 209 eco-friendly automobiles were traded, up by 60.7 percent from the previous month's 130 units. 

Topping the ranking of the best-selling 100-percent electric automobiles January through November 2016 was BMW with 62 units, followed by Mercedes-Benz (27 units), Volvo (11), Mitsubishi (7), Renault (5), Porsche (3) and Audi (1). 

Most of the hybrid automobiles sold in Romania in the first eleven months of 2016 were Toyotas (724 units), followed by Lexus (141), Land Rover (19) and Mercedes Benz (3). 

APIA data reveal that the segment of hybrid automobiles accounts for 86.1 percent of the entire category of eco-friendly cars, while sales of all-electric cars (BEV, EREV, PHEV) over January - November 2016 have tripled (237 percent) from the similar period of 2015. 

The total number of new electric and hybrid automobiles traded in Romania in 2015 was 495, up 110 percent from 236 in 2014.
