Agriculture: Romania exported, in the first nine months of 2016, 5.2 million tones wheat
Romania has exported, in the first nine months of 2016, a total of 5.2 million tones wheat, more than twice as much compared to the same period of 2015, when 2.57 million tones wheat was supplied to the foreign markets, the biggest quantity being absorbed by non-European markets, according to the statistic data of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR).
The revenues in selling the Romanian wheat totaled EUR 862.86 millions, representing almost 20pct from the total amount of exports in agrifood products obtained in the mentioned period, namely EUR 4.32 billion.
Compared to the similar period in 2015, revenues in wheat exports amounted EUR 511.98 millions, consequently 12pct from the total value of EUR 4.207 billions obtained in the period between 1 January - 30 September 2015.
According to the data from MADR, 4.53 million tones was exported in the third-party countries, valued at EUR 736 millions, while the trade exchanges of wheat in the European space totalized 729,321 tones, and revenues have went up to EUR 126.77 millions.
The wheat production in Romania increased 7pct this year compared to 2015, up to 8.413 millions tones, registering an average over 4 tones/hectare. The surpassing the threshold of four tones wheat per hectare was a premiere of the last 10 years.
