Cars : Car sales grew by 25% in 10 months while production dropped by 4%

New car sales grew by 25% in the first 10 months of the year, to 83,116 units, while local production dropped by 4.1% to 329,405 units, according to Automotive Manufacturers and Importers Association ( APIA ) data. Compared to September, car deliveries went up by 4.2% in October, while production increased by 19,%, APIA shows. New car sales grew by 24.2% in the first 10 months, to the previous month.

 

Exports advanced by 0.2% in the first 10 months, to 301,922 units, and went up by 4.1% compared to September. On the other hand, car imports were 26.6% higher over January-October, totaling 62,017 units, 7.8% more than in the previous month.

 

In Romania, sales are backed by purchases made by companies - 71% of total volume registered in the first 10 months of 2014. However, their volume (about 181,000 units in 2014) is still high compared to that of new cars (3 higher), although on the drop against 2013( when there were 4 old cars against a new one)”, APIA shows.

 

Car sales in the local market are dominated Dacia (22,497 units sold, 32.7% of total), followed by Volkswagen (7,223 units - 10.5%), Skoda (6,548 units- 9.5%), Ford (4,807 units-7%), Renault (4,690 units - 6.8%) and Opel (3,075 units -4.5%).

 

Dacia Logan is the best sold model in October and in the first 10 months, followed by Dacia Sandero (ranking 3rd after 10 months), Dacia Duster (2nd), Skoda Octavia (4th) and Skoda rapid (7th).

As for car manufacture in the first 10 months, 283,529 units (85%) were assembled by Dacia, 45,876 units (15%) by Ford and 5 units by Roman Brasov.

 

The highest volumes were registered by Dacia Duster (142,466 units) and Dacia Logan (68,767 units), Ford B-Max ( 45,876), Dacia Sandero (37,397) and Dacia Logan MCV (34,899).

 

The most exported model was Dacia Duster with 133,312 units, followed by Logan with 57,781 units Ford B Max with 45,796 units.



APIA shows that there was an uninterrupted period of 16 months of sales increase and estimates the market might register in 2014 an overall sales volume of 97,000 vehicles of which 80,000 cars.
