Cars: APIA: Sales of new vehicles grew by 20%, in the first 10 months
The automobile market in Romania has grown by over 20% in the first ten months of the year, compared to the same period of 2017, to 153,105 new units, according to APIA data.
According to the source, vehicle purchases are mainly made by companies, covering 61% of total car purchases recorded in the last 10 months of 2018. At the same time, APIA points out that the number of cars bought by persons is 50,769 units, about 35.5% higher than in the same period of last year (37,453 units).
Centralised data show that in October, the volume of car deliveries was 18,274 units, 19.5% more than in 2017.
153,105 cars were sold over January-October 2018, on the rise by 20.1%. Of them, 129,274 are cars (+22.1% compared to 2017) and 23,831 are commercial vehicle (+10.1% against 2017).
According to APIA, for automobiles and commercial vehicles, Dacia is leader with 44,109 units, followed by Volkswagen (13,859 units), Renault (11,978), Ford (11,521) and Skoda (11,165).
At the same time, for automobiles, the leading company is Dacia with 41,374 units (32% market share, with an increasing volume by 28.7% against 2017), followed by Volkswagen (12,426 units, 7.9% of overall market), Skoda (11,165 units, 8.6% of total), Renault (10,266 units,7.9% of market) and Ford (7,808 units, 6% market share).
As for car models, after 10 months of 2018, Dacia Logan continues to register the highest sales volume, 17,227 units, followed by Dacia Duster with 10,416 units, Dacia Sandero (8,512), Renault Clio (4,858) and Skoda Octavia (4,489).
According to the type of fuel used, automobiles running on gasoline represent a majority, reaching a share of 61.5% of total, but significantly higher (10.1%) compared to 2017, that is 51.4%.
As for “green” cars (electric and hybrid) their shares in overall sales is 2.7% after the first ten months, higher than in 2017, when it was 2%. The electric car segment (full and plug-in) had a sales increase of 145.8% to 740 units, while those for hybrid ones the increase is 55.6%, to 2,768 units.
According to the country of origin, the situation is as follows: Romania 31.5%, Germany 19.1%, Czech republic 10.6%, Turkey 8.9% and Spain 7.5%. In this context, automobiles of local origin recorded a significant increase of 35.9% in 2018 against 2017, while imported cars recorded only 16.7%.
On the other hand, APIA statistics mention that 390,411 used cars were registered in the first 10 months of the year, on the drop by 8.4% compared to the same period of 2017.
