Cars: APIA: “Green” cars arrive in Romania at a market share of 20.4% in first semester
The number of new cars registered in Romania in semester 1, 2022, grew by 23.2% compared to the same period of 2021, a spectacular jump being made by ecological cars which reached a market share of 20.4%, according to data of the Association of Automobile Manufacturers and Importers (APIA) presented at a press conference, on last Wednesday.
According o statistics, in the period of time analyzed the top of first ten car makes, automobiles and commercial vehicles in the national market, is headed by Dacia (16,434 units), followed by Ford (6,139 units), Toyota (5,050 units), Hyundai (4,630 units), Renault (4,550 units), Volkswagen (4,220 units), Skoda (3,962 units), Mercedes Benz (3,556 units), Peugeot (2,090 units) and Kia (1,379 units).
According to the type of fuel used by registered cars over January- June 2022, cars running on gasoline record a 24.5%increase, compared to the same period of 2021, to a share of 65.1%, while cars running on Diesel oil recorded a drop of 26.4% and hold a market share of 14.5% of total.
At the same time, registrations of “green”cars, electric ones (100% hybrid and hybrid plug-ins) as well as full hybrid ones (which are electrically propelled without charging from external source), recorded an increase of 122.7%, achieving a market share of 20.4%.
So, similar to 2021, when a drop of car purchases in general was recorded, “green” cars performed, in 2022 we should notice an important increase of 100% electric cars (+411.7%) and hybrid plug-ins (+119.3%).
Reported to the reference period of time, the first five best sold 100% electric cars are: Dacia Spring – 2,385 units, Tesla Model -3,379 units, 19 times more than in 2021, Hyundai Kona -233 units, + 356.9%, Volkswagen e-UP = 209 units, + 39.3%) and Renault Zoe (135 units, +84.9%).
Referring to Plug-in cars, Ford Kuga is first in the top, with 208 units (+252.5%), followed by Mercedes Benz GLE with 154 units (138.3%), Hyundai Tucson – 121 units (+611.8%), Renault Captur – 119 units (+11.2%) and Mercedes Benz GLC – 115 units (51.3%).
Hybrid cars, without external recharging have Toyota Corolla ranking third with 1,203 units, on the rise by 30.3% against 2021, followed by Toyota CHR with 987 units (+14.2%) and Toyota RAV4 with 763 units (+23.7%).
