Broadcasting services of audiovisual programs: over 7.3 million subscribers
Some 98% of all households in Romania benefited in the first half of this year from paid re-broadcasting services of audiovisual programmes, with over 7.3 million subscribers, on the rise by 2.5% over the same period in 2016, show the statistics with the National Authority for Administration and Regulation in Communications (ANCOM), made public on Wednesday.
According to the cited data, most subscribers (4.9 million) are cable ones, 2.4 million are subscribers to satellite networks (DTH), and 106,000 are IP (IPTV) subscribers.
As to the share of TV services between urban and rural areas, the ANCOM data reveal that TV services are mainly received through cable networks (82% of TV subscribers of urban areas), while in rural areas they are mainly received through DTH satellite networks (56% of TV subscribers of rural areas).
Also, at the national level, cable networks represent the main support through which subscribers to TV services receive audiovisual programmes (66% of all Romanian subscribers). Of the 4.9 million subscribers to services provided by cable networks, 3.6 million live in urban areas (+ 3% annual growth) and 1.3 million in rural areas (+ 12% annual growth). The penetration rate of the audiovisual programmes' retransmission services through cable networks has thus reached 65% at the national level (84% urban and 40% rural).
According to the ANCOM, the number of subscribers to retransmission services that receive digital media programmes continues to grow, having reached 4.6 million (+ 3% annual growth) by mid-2017. Of those receiving digital TV programmes, approximately 2.4 million (-3% per year) are subscribed to DTH services, while almost 2.2 million (+ 10% annually ) were subscribers to services provided by cable networks and about 106,000 (+ 20% annually) to IP (IPTV) technology.
