Big farmers in Romania expect to obtain more wheat this year
Big farmers in Romania, interviewed by News.ro, estimate that they will harvest more wheat this season than last year, while other farmers expect similar yields.
According to Ion Cioroianu, councillor of the Farmers’ Association in Romania (AFR), the average yield being included between 4 and 6 tons per hectare, while the yield is significantly better in the case of big farms.
Farmer Dimitrie Musca, who grew 3,000 hectares with wheat in Arad county obtained an average yield of 8 tons/hectare.
On the other hand, Laurentiu Baciu, the president of the League of Association of Farm Producers in ROmania (LAPAR), avoids making clear estimates so far.
“Wheat harvesting has just started. You can find harvested wheat in Calarasi, Olt, Giurgiu or Constanta. We cannot foresee anything yet, as we do not have sufficient data. It seems to be a good yield, but we are waiting to harvest it,”Baciu added.
The wheat yield grew last year by 4% compared to 2015, to 8.28 million tons, a record result for Romania, with an average of over 4 tons per hectare.
