Agriculture: Romania's forest stock advances 0.1 pct in 2013
Romania's forest stock was standing at nearly 6.54 million hectares at the end of 2013, up 0.1 percent from the previous year, according to provisional data released on Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
The forest area represents 97.6 percent of the national forest stock.
In 2013, the volume of harvested wood decreased by around 0.1 percent compared with 2012.
The area of cuttings for forest regeneration, performed within the forest treatments for the forest transition from one generation to another, decreased by around 1.2 percent compared to 2012. Out of this area, the flat cuttings (areas on which wood was fully harvested) represent 4.5 percent.
In 2013, forest regeneration works were performed on an area of 26285 ha, 2.2 percent more compared to 2012.
The distribution of the forest fund by development regions shows a significant concentration in the Centre (19.3 percent of the total forest fund) and North-East (18.2 percent), followed by the development regions West (16.0 percent), North-West (15.2 percent), South-West-Oltenia (12.4 percent), South-Muntenia (10.1 percent), South-East (8.4 percent) and Bucharest-Ilfov (0.4 percent).
The largest areas, on which forest regeneration works were performed in the development regions North-East (22.2 percent of the total regenerated area) and Centre (17.5 percent), followed by the development regions South-East (13.4 percent), South-Muntenia (12.8 percent), West (12.0 percent), North-West (12.0 percent), South-West-Oltenia (9.4 percent) and Bucharest-Ilfov (0.7 percent).
The forestry statistical surveys are exhaustive and address all forestry structures that administer lands within the national forest fund and/or provide forest services.
