Agriculture: Over 12 million cubic metres of wood, harvested last year from national forest fund
The volume of wood harvested last year from the state's forest national fund amounted to 12.284 million cubic metres, according to data centralised by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
In 2017, 18.316 million cubic metres of wood were harvested, by 1.118 million cm more than in 2016, of which 67.1 pct from the national forest fund, the rest being harvested from private property forests (27.6 pct) and from the forest vegetation on land outside the forest fund (5.3 pct).
The biggest volume of wood was harvested in the Nord-Est development region (29.1 pct of the total amount), followed by the Centre region (19.9 pct), the North-Vest (12.8pct), West ( 9.7pct), South-Muntenia (8.2 pct), Southwest-Oltenia (7.2 pct), Southeast (7.2 pct) and Bucharest - Ilfov (0.4pct).
In 2017, the volume of harvested wood was by 5 pct lower than in 2013.
As much as 95.3 pct of the harvested wood was destined to legal entities involved in the forestry exploitation activity and 4.7 pct to individuals who are allowed to exploit the forests they own.
According to Law no. 133/2015 for the amendment and completion of Law no. 46/2008 - the Forestry Code, the exploitation of wood is carried out by legal entities authorised by the central public authority in charge with forestry; by way of exception, individuals can exploit, without authorisation, a volume of up to 20 cubic metres from the forests they own.
