Agriculture: Ministry of Agriculture: Pesticide residues in Romanian fruit and vegetables are not dangerous for consumers
Vegetables and fruits produced in Romania are controlled for pesticide residues, according to European provisions and does not represent a risk for consumers, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR) announced in a press release.
“Vegetables and fruits produced in Romania are controlled for pesticide residues according to European provisions. Inspectors from phytosanitary offices pick up samples according to a calendar and send them to labs to be analysed. Provisions of MADR order 1256/2005 are strictly observed for picking up samples of plants and vegetal products for lab analyses and officially determine the level of pesticide residues,” the source notes.
The ministry mentions the fact that Romania, through the National Phytosanitary Authority, has labs equipped with performing equipment which can determined pesticide residues at the level of “pesticide traces”, and results of those controls are in parameters requested by the law. The content of pesticide residues, in the limits provided by European law, should not affect the sales of Romanian products.
Moreover, hypermarkets and supermarkets request those analysis bulletins and make sure products are according to demands.
The results obtained by these controls are included in European media. At the same time, since the products are conventional and not ecological and it is obvious they contain pesticide residues but do not exceed the maximum level admitted by the law.”
