Agriculture : In 2020, ecological agriculture covered 472,000 hectares

The total area covered by ecological agriculture grew by 19.4% in 2020 compared to the previous year, reaching 471,928 ha, while the area ecologically certified went up by 28%, to 270,656 ha in 2020, according to data released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR). Farmers can access funds of 77 million euros this year for ecological agriculture.

MADR representatives say that Romania will allocate ecological agriculture 232 million euros from the budget of the transition period, for payments until 2023.

“In 2021 MADR estimates that payments of 77 million euros will be made to farmers who apply ecological agriculture practices as part of a multi-annual voluntary engagement assumed for Measure 11- Ecological agriculture”.

On March 1, 2021 a campaign was initiated for single payment applications in which farmers can request support for measure 11 engagements. Single payment applications can be sent until May 17, 2021, without penalties and until June 2021, with a reduction of 1% for every work day for amounts for which the beneficiary had the right in case the single payment application had not been sent by Mar 17,2021.
