Romanian fruit and vegetable producers will benefit from overall funds of 10.8 million lei, as temporary support measure, to cover some of the losses suffered following the decision of the Russian government to forbid imports of vegetable and fruit from EU, Romania included.

Based on payment requests fruit and vegetable producers and organizations in this farming sector will receive financial aid to cover some of the losses suffered in the period August 18,2014- December 31, 2014, according to a decision approved on Wednesday.

Funds for the exceptional temporary support come from the European Agricultural Guarantee Fund, through the budget of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of 2015.

The government decided that the total maximum value of the state aid for farmers in the animal husbandry sector would be 146.8 million lei this year.44.5 million lei of that amount will be allocated for cattle, pork and horses, while 102.35 million lei will be for sheep and goats.

“This financial support was approved by the government in the context in which a state aid program was set up in the animal husbandry sector for 2015-2020 for 881.1 million lei through government decision 1179/2014. The value for the support of animal breeders is approved annually,”the government informs.

In August 2014 two key institutions in Russia in charge of the control of food production flow, Rosselhonadzor and Rospotrebnadzor forbade imports from Ukraine, Moldova, EU and USA, in the context of sanctions imposed by the western world.
