Agriculture: APIA pays over 833million lei to farmers for crops affected by drought
More than 28,000 applications for support for crops affected by the drought have been declared eligible for payment, and 27,304 farmers have already received compensation worth more than 833 million lei, the Agency for Payments and Intervention in Agriculture (APIA) informed on Wednesday.
According to the same source, the relevant authorities have verified the applications for support submitted by farmers between September 3 and 15, 2020 for the state aid scheme granted to agricultural producers who set up crops in the fall of 2019 and were affected by the pedological drought.
Thus, following the verifications, 28,081 payment requests were declared eligible, for a total disaster area of 1,120,540.40 hectares, reads the same release of APIA .
The data centralized by APIA show that, on September 22, the payment was made for a number of 17,951 farmers with the amount of 498,526,688 lei, and on September 23, 2020, for a number of 9,353 farmers, the amount being 334,739,193 lei.
The Agency states that it will continue to hurry with the entire project and that all farmers declared eligible will be paid in the coming days and thus assures them "that it attaches great importance to the speedy completion of payments, its entire staff being mobilized both in the county centres and central device level to do the job."
