Works on the Bulgaria-Romania-Hungary-Austria (BRUA) gas pipeline to start this November

Romania's Transgaz natural gas transmission company is expecting works on the Bulgaria-Romania-Hungary-Austria (BRUA) gas pipeline to start this November, with the pipeline estimated to cross nearly 20,000 private lands, Romania's Economy Ministry said Wednesday in a press statement. 

"Transgaz is about to complete the environmental and social assessment reports for the project," Iulian Butnaru, manager at the BRUA project management unit is quoted as saying. 

He also said Transgaz is cooperating with the National Cadaster Agency to clarify the state of the lands the pipeline will cross. 

According to the statement, officials of the Economy Ministry, Transgaz and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on Wednesday looked into the latest developments in and challenges raised by the strategic pipeline, which will cross 529 km of Romania, including 11 counties, 79 settlements and about 20,000 private lands. 

The Economy Ministry is supporting Transgaz and monitoring the project, which development is on schedule, according to senior official Petre Nicolescu.
