Transport of natural gas through integrated networks, initiative proposed by the operators in Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary and Slovakia

The operators for natural gas transport in Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Slovakia propose an initiative for the transport of natural gas through integrated networks of gas transport, according to a press release.

‘Bulgartransgaz, Transgaz, FGSZ and Eustream propose joined actions regarding the extension of the cooperation between the EU and Azerbaijan through the transport of supplementary quantities of natural gas through their existing networks’ the press release says.

According to the quoted source, the operators of gas transport will continue to work according to the framework established through the agreement for strategic cooperation EU-Azerbaijan signed on 18th July 2022.

‘On the basis of the cooperation between the companies along the years, and with the support of the EU funds, the operators are trustful that such a project would offer an alternative route for supply with gas in sufficiently high volumes’ the press release says.

The companies say that in a short time and with minimum improvements of the existing infrastructure, the project could transport up to 5 billion cubic metres of natural gas per year, from Turkey and Greece towards Eastern Europe, Central and Western Europe through Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Slovakia.

‘This would allow the European consumers to receive more natural gas through the pipelines of the South Corridor. Such a project would be implemented in the shortest time, and at minimum costs, contributing significantly to ensuring liquidity on the European market of gas. The initiative contributes to putting to value the objectives and priorities established in the REPower EU plan of the Commission’ according to the quoted source.
